Greenhouse Project

The Greenhouse Project is the first of its kind in the state of Nevada. The project will do more than provide healthy food to people in need, it will also teach local kids about agriculture and healthy eating.

The Greenhouse build location is yet to be determined. Programs such as FISH, Kids in Transition and the culinary program at Carson City High School will use the organic produce grown in the structure.

Students at the school as well as kids from other nearby schools and the Boys and Girls club will tend to the garden. The project will provide the kids with a valuable education in nutritious eating. It’s hoped they will take those lessons home and share them with their families.

The actual structure is unique as well. The heating, cooling and water system will run on turbine power. But you won’t see any windmills nearby; instead it will use what’s called a Wind Spire Turbine.

The Greenhouse Project is on track to open in 2010.
